Betty Rumford, PSR Receptionist 1969-1999, dies November 30, 2012
Betty Rumford was born in New Orleans, LA on September 13, 1932 to the late George S. and Corinne M. Bergeron. Betty made her transition on November 30, 2012 in Walnut Creek, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother. Prior to her illness, Betty was an active member of Easter Hill United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Beulah Circle and The Delights, a women’s social club.
Betty was PSR’s beloved receptionist from 1969 to 1999. Betty considered hospitality to be her ministry - making each visitor feel respected and valued. Many students, staff, faculty, and visitors benefited from gracious spirit. The benches in the center of campus, under the olive tree, dedicated after her retirement, are appropriately named "Betty's Bench."
Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joni E. and Glenn R. Colbert; son William Byron Rumford, III; grandsons, Brandon R. and Bryon A. Colbert; granddaughter, Tiana K. Rumford, great grandson, Jaidon X. Colbert. A “Celebration of Life” memorial service will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Easter Hill United Methodist Church, 3911 Cutting Blvd., in Richmond, CA. Donations in Betty’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association under her name.
