Ray Welles (MDiv '55) Receives Grant for Eldering Ministries in Pleasant Hill

June 28, 2013

After a long and successful career, UCC Minister & 2013 Distinguished Alum Rev. Dr. Ray Welles (‘55) came out of retirement in 2010 to found an Eldering Ministries program at Hillcrest Congregational Church in Pleasant Hill, CA. In this program, he is reimagining ministry for the elders in the church, offering a space for older congregants to contemplate the wisdom they have gained through their lives and share their experiences of aging and mortality in fellowship. The program’s engaging multi-media “Sage-ing Sessions” pull from several different spiritual traditions, while the “Harvesting a Lifetime Sessions” focus on transforming the approach to living a long life into an occasion for celebration instead of regret.

Rev. Dr. Welles is a graduate of Pomona College and attended Yale Divinity School before transferring to PSR, where he earned his MDiv. He also holds a DMin from San Francisco Theological Seminary and has served in churches all over Northern California.
