PSR Announces 2014 Commencement Speaker
Pacific School of Religion is proud to announce that Bishop Yvette A. Flunder will deliver the commencement address at the 2014 graduation ceremony.
Bishop Flunder, an ordained Minister of the United Church of Christ, is the founder of the City of Refuge UCC, a thriving inner-city congregation in Oakland, CA that celebrates the radically inclusive love of Jesus Christ. Flunder is the consecrated Presiding Bishop of The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries, a multi-denominational fellowship of 110 primarily African American Christian leaders and laity representing 56 churches and faith-based organizations from all parts of the United States Mexico and Africa. Her speech will mark the end of her 9 years of service as a member of PSR's board of trustees.
Flunder graduated from the Ministry Studies and Master of Arts programs at Pacific School of Religion in 1997. She has also earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo California. She is a world-renowned gospel recording artist, AIDS activist, preacher, educator, conference speaker and lecturer, and has also been an adjunct professor and speaker here at PSR. She is the author of Where the Edge Gathers: A Theology and Homiletic of Radical Inclusion from Pilgrim Press.
