Transgender Religious Leaders Come to PSR for Annual Summit

Starting Thursday, November 1, transgender religious leaders from all over the United States and Canada will be coming to PSR for three days to attend the Sixth Annual Transgender Religious Leadership Summit. This year’s theme is “Reconnect and Rejuvenate.

This year’s key note speaker, Rev. Megan Rohrer, has been working on the National level giving voice to the plight of transgender, transsexual, queer, intersex and gender non-conforming youth within faith communities and on the streets of our cities.

There will be numerous workshops, panel discussions, informal conversations that will cover topics that include: the 'Transgender Christ', advocacy, transitioning, 'coming out', affirmation vs. assimilation, shame regarding sexuality and gender, empowering leadership, and more. Each day there will be special time set aside for sacred space and celebration.There is also be a resource fair held on Saturday, November 3.

Additionally, there are two partner events happen during the Summit. The California Gathering of Gender Non-Conforming Jews is sponsored by Nehirim (register) and the Gathering of Gender Non-Conforming Muslims (register) is sponsored by Starr King School for the Ministry of the Graduate Theological Union.

The Summit is co-sponsored by The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry (CLGS) at Pacific School of Religion (PSR), Light In the Closet Ministries (www.lightinthecloset.org), Starr King School for the Ministry of the Graduate Theological Union (www.sksm.edu), and Nehirim (www.nehirim.org).
