Jaekuk Jo

Born in Wonjoo, South Korea, Jaekuk Jo moved at the age of 6 with his father, a Methodist preacher, to Mexico, and lived there until he finished high school in 2004. He returned to Korea and earned a BA degree in theology at Mokwon University. Looking for an interdenominational seminary, he found Pacific School of Religion and began the MDiv program in 2008.
"My first semester here was very exciting, if a bit dizzying, because I encountered so many things I had not met before: ideas, people, theologies. I was just fascinated! Before PSR, I thought that, by going to seminary I would learn how to do theology. But that has changed: now I feel I need to know why I should do a particular theology, because there are so many.
"Something I noticed right away and very much appreciate about PSR is that the people here are so warm and kind—students, faculty, and staff. If you don’t know something or have lost something or having trouble doing something, like submitting a paper, people are so helpful. I haven’t seen such attitudes at other schools I’ve been to."
