PSR Changemaker Fellows Colombia Immersion: March 20-31, 2015
PSR’s delegation has embarked on an immersive intensive to engage with Colombian communities that use creative tools of active nonviolence to address the impact of armed conflict and contribute to reconciliation. Thirteen change maker students, with their professor, Dr. Boyung Lee, will meet Colombians at the forefront of change regarding current military, economic, and foreign policy as well as practices of multinational corporations in Colombia.
The delegation will begin in Bogotá with orientation and training by our partners and hosts, Fellowship of Reconciliation Peace Presence. FOR Peace Presence is an organization dedicated to providing safety, political visibility and solidarity to communities and individuals in Colombia.
While in Colombia, they will learn first hand from Colombian change makers the challenges and strategies of working for peace and social justice in their context. Our delegation has prepared through readings, theological reflections and community engagement. Now they will learn from the spirit and resiliency of people.
These Colombian change makers form part of national, regional, and international movements weaving a range of issues: human rights, environmental and economic justice for indigenous communities, corporate accountability, land restitution, the essential role of womxn in Colombia’s Peace Process, among others. The delegation will engage in solidarity with people inspired and driven by different faiths and moral imperatives and will also meet with local, national and international government officials.
Participants will spend time in Bogotá, Barranquilla, Cesar, Magdalena and the Caribbean Coast. In all of these locations, the delegates will engage with people living in affected communities, break bread with them, offer witness to their stories, share in experiences where and how the community lives, prays, grows food, and celebrates.
