Student Applicants Are Welcomed
The Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo (CA) is seeking a part-time Director of Religious Education for Children’s Ministry. The person in this position has the opportunity to impact lives and instill UU values in our children from nursery school through 6th grade. The DRE for Children reports to the Lead Minister and works in close collaboration with the DRE for Youth (from 7th grade through high school).
UUSM strives to live out its mission to be a liberal religious community of open hearts and open minds working together to transform ourselves and the world. We are a mid-sized congregation, serving approximately 175 adult members and 85 children and youth.
In brief, we seek someone to:
- provide leadership for the RE program for children through 6th grade and communicate program philosophy, format, and content to RE families and the UUSM community
- manage Sunday morning RE classes
- plan and develop effective curriculum sequences for each age group
- recruit and train volunteers and support staff
- advocate inclusion of children and youth in congregational activities and ensure a safe and nurturing environment
The opening is for a flexible, part-time, exempt position. We believe the job would be compatible with, and complementary to, studying for the ministry. A divinity student in this position need not make a long term commitment to our Church, but of course we would welcome the opportunity to engage the right person indefinitely
We are committed to pay salary and provide benefits congruent with the Fair Compensation Guidelines for the UUA Region 7. We imagine that a divinity student would qualify for the pro-rated salary for a “Religious Educator” for our “Midsize I” congregation. See www.uua.org/sites/live-new.uua.org/files/salary_recs_17-18_geo_7_final_012017.pdf.
For further information including the job posting and job description, please see www.uusanmateo.org/job-opportunities. Or contact Karyn Collins, office manager at UUSM – 650-342-5946.
Note that the job posting is based on the job description of our prior half-time Director of Religious Education. We would be happy to work with an interested student applicant to tailor the position to accommodate more limited availability.
