November 9 – November 16

Course Description

The majority of Biblical passages that address those who are different because of their gender or gender presentation are quite positive. Isaiah declares an ever-lasting covenant, one of the first people baptized is the Ethiopian eunuch, and Jesus speaks of the variety of genders. In this course, we will consider these passages, plus a couple of negative ones, with an eye towards how the Bible contributes to a theology of liberation for transgender and gender variant people. We’ll also discuss how an anti-trans* discourse is being fostered within conservative religious groups and how that might be addressed through the Biblical witness.
